frequently asked questions

Question: Will Springwave be my internet service provider if I sign up for the Springwave Wireless Broadband service?
Answer: Yes, Springwave will provide both the connection (via wireless) and will act as the ISP providing the Internet access and email accounts.

Question: What equipment is required in my home to connect to the wireless network signal?
Answer: Springwave will provide each account, if necessary, with a wireless bridge that will connect your computer or router to our wireless network. We recommend that you purchase a Broadband Router/Firewall to provide protection between the Internet and your personal computer. These can be purchased at most electronic stores that sell computer equipment for around $50.

Question: What connection speeds can I expect on the service?
Answer: Speeds will be very dependent on couple things: 1) How many simultaneous users on the system at a given time, 2) Your location in relation to one of our access points. Users should experience speeds that approximately correspond with the service level you purchased given the above dependencies. Relative to dial-up service at 50kbps, your minimum connection should be approximately 5 times faster, but could be up to 20 times faster depending on the service level you purchased..

Question: Are the prices listed introductory prices? What is the setup fee, if any? Should I expect other fees for service?
Answer: The prices shown are not introductory prices. Normally there will be no install charge unless you request one of our technicians to come on-site and hook up the equipment we provide; there will be a one time fee of $39.95.

Question: Are Macintosh or Linux based systems able to use your service?
Answer: Yes, our system uses standards based devices such as 802.11b or 802.11g wireless, and ethernet connectivity. As long as your computer has either an ethernet card/port or 802.11b/g wireless card, it will be able to connect to our system assuming you are within range of one of our access points..

Question: Will I be able to share my connection with more than one computer in my home?
Answer: The Springwave-Home service will allow only one concurrent connection per account. However, we recommend that you purchase a Broadband Router/Firewall to provide protection between the Internet and your personal computer, which will also give you the ability to share the connection with multiple computers. A router/firewall can be purchased at most electronic stores for around $50.

Question: Do I need a phone line for the Springwave service?
Answer: No, the Springwave service is provided via a wireless connection and wireless bridge that we provide as part of your subscription.

Question: Is the Springwave service available 24/7 or do I have to connect every time I want to use it?
Answer: Your connection wil be an always on connection.

Question: What are the minimum requirements for my computer to access the Springwave system?
Answer: Most computers that have been purchased in the last 3 years should be adequate for utilizing Springwave service. With that said, your computer should be a minimum of a Pentium II machine running Windows 98 or later (Preferably Windows 2000 or XP) and must have a operational network card installed.

Question: Where will the service be available?
Answer: At this point, our new residential wireless service will only be available within the city limits of Spring Hill. We hope in the future to be able to offer these same services in nearby cities.
